FAQ

board-armour.png

What is board armour? it is a 12mil. clear glossy laminate made for the off road industry. 4 times thicker than our standard laminate. It will protect you board from the deep scratches and gouges. All our skins come with a 3M laminate but if you select this option we will send your skin with this product already installed on your print. Ready for you to apply to your board.

WHAT DO I DO IF MY SKIN PEELS UP?

During the installation of your skin it is extremely important that you trim away any overhang. You do not want to have your skin hanging over the edge even just a little. When trimming hold your blade at a 45 degree angle to the board to get the skin to recess as far from the edge as possible. Heating the edge with a hair dryer is also very important. What usually causes the skin to peel up is a gouge or knick in the board that was missed during the install. We suggest cutting that area of the skin away from the edge so you get good adhesion to the gel coat. We have also had good success with heating up the area and pressing with our fingers so the skin seals to the indentation. If you can't get a complete seal then you have to trim it away from the area. If your skin does start to peel up it's not the end of the world. Our 3M vinyls use a solvent based adhesive so water/snow doesn't affect it. Take your board into warm area and let it sit over night to get all the moisture out from under the skin. You will then be able to stick the skin back down. To be safe you should also heat up the area again. Then trim back the area so it doesn't happen again.

MATTE VS. GLOSSY?

WHAT ARE YOUR SKINS MADE OF?

We source the best 3M digital vinyl available. Durable for temps -60 to +107C, it is easy to apply, won't shrink, and is hassle free removal. The laminate is specifically made to compliment the vinyl. It provides an extra layer of protection and is pliable so it won't chip through temperature fluctuations.

We print with HP Latex technology. Why does that make a difference? Solvent based inks are harmful to the environment and release VOC's (that's the chemical you can smell with some plastic products). With latex ink there are no VOC's.

Latex also has the ability to stretch. When you leave your cozy cabin to hit the slopes, there can be up to a 50 degree difference in temperature. This can wreak havoc for cheaper wraps. The material has to have the ability to expand and contract quickly without losing adhesion.

HOW LONG SHOULD I WAIT UNTIL I USE MY BOARD AFTER A FESH INSTALL?

24 hours. This allows the adhesive time to make a good bond with the gel coat.

HOW LONG WILL MY SKIN LAST?

It should last for 2-3 seasons if applied to a newer board. We suggest not applying the skin right to the edge of the board. If there is an area where the skin can get lifted and any dirt or snow starts to get under the skin, the life expectancy is greatly reduced. Please watch the INSTALL video for more details.

WHAT SHOULD I DO IF I HAVE AIR BUBBLES?

Our 3M material won't allow it to happen. If you do trap air, you simply move it with the squeegee to the side of the board to release it.

CAN YOU MAKE A SKIN WITH MY DESIGN?

Yes. Click on "Design Your Own" at the top of the webpage. There are 2 ways to do it:

1. You can download a template and use your own graphics program like Adobe Illustrator or Corel Draw and upload it with your order. Please save it as a pdf with the fonts converted to paths and in CMYK. The link for the template will be highlighted in the description of each type of board.

2. Click "Customize" on the left of the page for any of our "Design Your Own" boards. This will take you to our integrated design studio. You can then upload you own images or use some of ours. You can add text and any other graphics you want.

When you submit your custom artwork, we will send you a proof that requires approval prior to any printing.

IS IT EASY TO REMOVE?

Yes. Our 3M material is designed to remove easily, residue free, with a little heat from a hair dryer. The key is to just make it warm, not HOT. The rule is if it is too hot for your hand, it's too hot.

WHAT DO I DO IF THERE IS RESIDUE LEFT AFTER REMOVAL?

This only happens when the glue was over heated or the wrap has been on for 3 or more years, but the solution is simple. Isopropyl Alcohol takes it off without ruining the finish. Soak the area for 5 minutes and it should come off easily.

CAN I REUSE MY SKIN?

No. They are for only one use.

We can open any file formats (.ai .cdr .png .jpg .pdf) Please keep in mind that vector files will always print the best. We prefer pdf files with all the text converted to paths and in CMYK.

You cannot increase the resolution of your artwork. The lowest resolution we accept is 72 dpi - the higher the better to avoid pixelation. Vector is certainly the best.

CAN YOU PRINT RGB/PANTONE COLOURS?

Our printer prints using CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black) ink, therefore RGB (Red, Green, Blue) and Pantone (universal colour guideline) colours will be converted to CMYK. This may cause slight colour shifts. When switching, we will get as close as possible but cannot guarantee a complete colour match.

WHY AM I UNABLE TO UPLOAD ARTWORK?

If your artwork is over 500MB, there may be issues. Please let us know if there's a problem.

DO I NEED TO OUTLINE MY FONTS?

Yes, please convert them to lines. Otherwise, we may not have the font that is in your file and it will cause a substitution of fonts.

CAN YOU RESIZE MY ARTWORK FOR ME?
